Day 1: Sofia – The Rhodope Mountains

Arriving in Sofia and direct transfer to the Rhodope mountains (200 km, 3.00H). Accommodation in the Monastery “Saints Kirik and Yulita” (the Gorni Voden’s monastery). Built in the Middle Ages, it impresses with its rich architecture, its painted walls and its icons.

Day 2 : Monastery St. Kirik – village Shiroka Laka 


About 2.30 h walk to the village Batchkovo.

Short transfer and visiting the fortress Asenova krepost. 

Visit of the Batchkovo monastery. Transfer to the village of Shiroka Laka and accommodation in a family hotel.


Day 3: Shiroka Laka – village Varbovo - Shiroka Laka

Short morning transfer to the village Varbovo, situated between the green hills and almost untouched since XVIII c. Walk in the region, climbing the Karabalkan summit and descent via the village Kukuvitza to Shiroka Laka.Lunch - picnic. Same accommodation as day 2.

Day 4: Shiroka Laka –Trigrad - Shiroka Laka

Short morning transfer (6 km) to the village of Gela. Beautiful walk via the Chairite region to the village of Trigard.

The Trigrad Gorge is the highest in Bulgaria, with its 350m high walls.

Visit of the cave « Djavolskoto gurlo» - The Devil’s Throat. According to the legend here Orpheus descended to the underworld in search of the woman he loved.

Day 5: Shiroka Laka – Samokov

Morning transfer to the city of Devin and short circular walk.

Transfer (2h) to the town of Samokov, near Rila Mountain.

Visit of the Samokov Monastery.

Accommodation in a hotel in Samokov.

+ 200 / - 200 m; 1.30h walk


Day 6: Samokov – Mt. Mussala

Transfer to Borovetz

6h walk to reach Mt. Mussala – the highest peak in the Balkan Peninsula (2925m).

Return to Samokov. Same accommodation.


Day 7: Samokov – Mt. Maliovitza

Returning in the mountain. About 3 -3.30h to climb Mt. Maliovitza (2729m). Descend and accommodation in a mountain hotel. Lunch -picnic.

Day 8: Maliovitza region – Rila Monastery 

Direct transfer to the biggest monastery in Bulgaria, known as “The father of the Bulgarian  Orthodox”  – St. John of Rila (he spent a big part of his life as a hermit). Accommodation in the monastery. About 1.30 walk and visit of the tomb of St. John.

Day 9: Rila Monastery – Dobarsko/Bansko

Day for sightseeing and relax. Accommodation in a local family’s guest- house


Day 10:Dobarsko/Bansko

Short morning transfer to the Vihren hut (1950m).

4-5 h walk from the Vihren hut via the saddle of Todorka. Descent to the Demianitza hut and transfer to Bansko. Accommodation in a local family’s guest- house. Lunch - picnic.


Day 11: Bansko – Mt. Vihren – Dobarsko/Bansko

Short transfer and climbing the highest peak in Pirin - Mt. Vihren – 2914m.  Fascinating panoramas over Pirin.

Returning to Bansko. Same accommodation.

Day 12: Dobarsko/Bansko – Melnik

Short morning transfer. Passing a saddle at 2500 m, beautiful traverse and arriving in Popina Laka (1400m) – 5.30-6h walk. Transfer (1 h) to the town of Melnik - situated alongside the sand pyramids, Melnik is a famous wine region. Accommodation in a hotel in Melnik. Lunch – picnic.


Day 13: Melnik - Sofia

Visit of the town. After that walk about 1h30 to the Rojen Monastery.

Visit of the sand pyramids. Transfer to Sofia in the afternoon (180 km - 3h30). Accommodation in a small hotel in the central part of the town (Diner is not included).


Day 14: Departure

Visit of Sofia. Transfer to the Airport. Depart.
