The natural setting for Bulgaria's most famous monastery -
Rila Monastery, and the country's oldest winter resort - Borovets.
Rila National Park - One
of the youngest Bulgarian national parks, covering nearly half of the Rila
mountain range, Rila's national park is situated in the Southwest of Bulgaria
and is renowned for the Seven Rila lakes, a hiker's paradise. The scenery is
breathtaking and here the visitor can find peace with the sound of the water
flowing over the rocks in the many streams and rivers.
Pirin Mountain - The country's second
highest mountain, highest peak Vihren (2,914 in), 176 mountain lakes and about
100 varieties of rare plants, including the edelweiss and the famous
Baikousheva fir, almost 1,300 years old. Location of the well-known climatic
and spa resort of Sandanski and the latest Bulgarian ski center Bansko.
Pirin National Park is
situated on the highest part of the Pirin mountain range whose peak's surpass
2,500 meters, and thanks to the influence of the Mediterranean climate the
beautiful landscape abounds with rich vegetation and fauna.
Bansko is located at the foot of the Pirin Mountains
and right below the Pirin
National Park, included
in the List of Word Natural Heritage.
Fortified houses make of stone appeared in Bansko
during the early National Revival period. Bansko’s architecture resembles
monastery construction - carefully jointed stone masonry, few and small gridded
windows, framer with decorative bricks. But behind the walls will see the real
Bulgarian hospitality and preserve traditions and handicraft.
